Thailand's Gastech 2026: A $40 Billion Energy Showcase

The Gastech 2026 event, held in Bangkok, has concluded with substantial outcomes for Thailand's energy sector. This major global natural gas conference attracted thousands of attendees from leading energy companies, government agencies, and energy ministries worldwide, underscoring Thailand's growing influence in the global energy landscape.

Kongkrapan Intarajang, CEO of PTT Public Company Limited, highlighted that the event not only showcased Thailand's capabilities but also reinforced its position on the global natural gas business map. He stated that the world will continue to need natural gas for another 20-30 years, but its use must go hand in hand with carbon reduction. PTT also places importance on carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology.

Natural gas, which Thailand sources primarily from the Gulf of Thailand, Myanmar, and through liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports, plays a crucial role in the country's energy mix. Currently, about 50% of Thailand's natural gas is domestically produced, while over 30% is imported as LNG. The reliance on natural gas is expected to continue, especially as it is viewed as a cleaner alternative to coal and oil.

Gastech 2026 served as a platform for discussions on energy security, sustainability, and innovation in the energy sector. The event featured various sessions focused on emerging technologies, including carbon capture and storage (CCS), which PTT is actively pursuing as part of its commitment to reduce carbon emissions while ensuring energy security.

In addition to the immediate financial commitments made during the event, analysts suggest that the outcomes of Gastech 2026 may position Thailand favorably for future energy collaborations and investments.
