Thailand Prepares for IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings: A Global Economic Stage
As Thailand gears up to host the IMF-World Bank Group Annual Meetings in October 2026, the country aims to showcase its economic potential and address global challenges.

Thailand is preparing to welcome over 15,000 delegates from more than 191 countries for the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group, scheduled for October 12-18 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok. This marks the first time in 35 years that Thailand has hosted this significant global economic event, having last done so in 1991.
According to Thai officials, this gathering is not merely a financial meeting but an opportunity to present Thailand's economic capabilities and to engage in discussions that directly impact the lives of its citizens. The theme for the 2026 meetings, “Thailand’s New Horizons: Empowering People, Building Resilience”, reflects a focus on inclusive development and economic resilience.
Key topics on the agenda will include digital transformation, job creation, climate resilience, and addressing the challenges of an aging society. These discussions aim to foster sustainable economic growth and tackle pressing global issues such as inequality and climate change, as noted by the Thai Ministry of Finance.
Dr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, emphasized the importance of this event in shaping global economic policies, stating that the meeting will not only spotlight Thailand’s role in the global economy but also emphasize the country’s commitment to collaborative solutions for shared challenges.

The previous meeting in 1991 was pivotal for Thailand, as it showcased the country's commitment to financial liberalization and economic development. This year's event is expected to build on that legacy, with Thailand presenting itself as a central hub for economic dialogue and cooperation in the region.
In preparation, Thailand is enhancing its infrastructure and services to accommodate the influx of international attendees, aiming to provide a memorable experience that highlights its rich culture and hospitality. The Thai government has also launched various initiatives to ensure that the local economy benefits from the event, projecting significant economic activity from the spending of delegates.
As the country gears up for this important occasion, Thailand is preparing to engage with global leaders and address the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
