Laos Launches Gold Festival 2026, Aiming for Regional Hub Status

From September 4 to 6, 2026, Laos officially launched the Lao Gold Festival 2026 in Vientiane, with Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone presiding over the opening ceremony. This three-day event aims to advance the Lao gold sector toward international standards and enhance its integration with regional markets.

The festival, themed “Connecting, Building Trust, Growing Together,” is organized by the Lao Bullion Bank (LBB) in collaboration with various sectors. It serves as a platform to promote standardization, transparency, and sustainable market integration for the Lao gold industry. The organizing committee anticipates that the festival will significantly raise Laos' international profile and lay the groundwork for the country to become a recognized hub for gold trading, services, and investment within ASEAN.

According to Chanthone Sitthixay, Director General of LBB, the festival is not merely a gold or jewelry exhibition but a comprehensive platform designed to connect the Lao gold market with the global market. It aims to facilitate dialogue and cooperation among public and private sectors, financial institutions, manufacturers, artisans, designers, investors, and international partners. The goal is to guide Lao gold toward international standards based on quality, transparency, and sustainable mutual growth.

The festival showcases a variety of gold-related products, including gold bullion, manufactured gold items, jewelry, and Lao handicrafts, alongside financial and investment innovations from both domestic and international entrepreneurs. Organizers have also arranged seminars and panel discussions covering topics such as Laos's potential as a regional gold hub, the future of the Lao bullion industry, and the role of gold in family security and ASEAN culture.

The event aims to expand partner networks and strengthen the gold industry ecosystem by connecting manufacturers, entrepreneurs, and investors. This initiative aligns with previous efforts by the Lao government to enhance the country’s position in the global precious metals market, as reported by InsideASEAN earlier this year.

As Laos continues to develop its gold sector, the festival is expected to contribute to the country’s economic growth and regional integration.
