Qualcomm, a leading technology firm, has officially expressed its desire to participate in the Vietnam International Financial Center (VIFC) in Ho Chi Minh City. This announcement came during the "Financial Roundtable" event held at Columbia University in New York on July 18, where various global financial institutions gathered to discuss investment opportunities in Vietnam.

During the event, Qualcomm submitted a letter of intent outlining its interest in contributing to the development of the VIFC, which aims to connect Vietnam with global financial markets and modernize the country's financial system. Qualcomm's commitment is seen as a significant endorsement of Vietnam's potential as an emerging financial hub. The company emphasized its belief that the VIFC could foster a transparent, secure, and sustainable financial ecosystem.

In addition to Qualcomm, Warburg Pincus, one of the world's oldest and largest private equity firms, has also indicated its interest in establishing a real estate investment trust (REIT) in Vietnam. This reflects a broader trend of increasing engagement from American firms in the Vietnamese market, spurred by recent economic reforms and the country's growing attractiveness as an investment destination.

Officials from Ho Chi Minh City, including Vice Chairman Nguyễn Công Vinh, highlighted the importance of such international partnerships. They noted that the participation of major global players like Deutsche Bank, which plans to expand its investment banking operations in Vietnam, further underscores the VIFC's role as a gateway for international capital.

Moreover, Morgan Stanley and Vanguard Global have shown interest in asset management services within Vietnam, indicating a robust interest in the region's financial services sector. Haitong Securities, one of China's largest brokerage firms, is also actively seeking to develop funding channels for Vietnamese enterprises, further enhancing the collaborative atmosphere among international financial institutions.

The VIFC, established in 2025, spans 1,200 hectares and aims to position Vietnam as a competitive player in the global financial landscape. The recent expressions of interest from Qualcomm and Warburg Pincus are seen as a reflection of the international community's confidence in Vietnam's economic trajectory and the potential for future growth.
