Honda to Launch Electric Motorcycle Production in Vietnam
The Japanese automaker plans to start manufacturing its UC3 electric motorcycle in Vietnam by September, reflecting the growing demand for electric vehicles in urban areas.

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. is preparing to commence production of its UC3 electric motorcycle in Vietnam as soon as September, according to Sayaka Arai, General Director of Honda Vietnam. This move comes as the company anticipates a continued shift towards electric vehicles (EVs) in urban areas, where motorcycles and scooters are integral to daily life.
The Vietnamese market has been increasingly receptive to electric vehicles, driven by rising environmental concerns and government initiatives aimed at reducing emissions. InsideASEAN has reported that the Vietnamese government is tightening regulations on gasoline motorcycles, which further supports the transition to electric alternatives.
Honda's decision to manufacture the UC3 locally aligns with broader trends in the region, where electric vehicle investments are surging. For instance, Vietnam's ride-hailing giant Grab plans to expand its EV charging network from 400 to over 6,000 ports by 2028, indicating a robust infrastructure development to support electric mobility.
Additionally, VinFast, another key player in the Vietnamese automotive market, recently launched its VF2 electric vehicle priced at $7,148, aiming to enhance car ownership while adhering to new regulations. This competitive landscape underscores the urgency for established manufacturers like Honda to adapt to changing consumer preferences and regulatory frameworks.
As Honda embarks on this new venture, it reflects not only a strategic business decision but also a response to the growing demand for sustainable transportation solutions in Vietnam's bustling urban centers.
