Sansiri Fund Completes Lake Como Hotel Acquisition, Former Thai PM Says
Srettha Thavisin says the Thai developer’s investment fund has completed its purchase of The Lake Como EDITION in Italy.

A fund linked to Thai property developer Sansiri has completed its acquisition of The Lake Como EDITION, a hotel in Italy, former prime minister Srettha Thavisin said in a Facebook post on October 15. Khaosod and LINE Today both reported his statement.
The update follows an earlier account by Nation Thailand that Sansiri Capital planned to take full ownership of the waterfront hotel, with completion expected by the end of September. Srettha’s post confirms completion later than that reported target, though it does not give a closing date or purchase price.
Srettha described the property’s Lake Como location and limits on new development nearby as reasons he believes it could generate long-term returns. Those are his investment expectations; the reports of his post did not provide financial results for the fund or terms of the completed deal.
In contrast, Thai media such as Kaohoon emphasized the broader implications of this acquisition for Thailand's international investment reputation. They noted that the successful purchase showcases Thailand's potential to attract foreign investment, especially in the luxury sector, and reflects a growing confidence among Thai investors in global markets.
Moreover, coverage from Thai outlets highlighted the significance of this acquisition within the context of Thailand's economic strategy, particularly in light of recent discussions at the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings. According to Kaohoon, the event allowed Thailand to demonstrate its leadership capabilities on a global stage, which could bolster investor confidence and lead to increased foreign investment in the country.
While Indonesian coverage of the acquisition focused primarily on the specifics of the deal and the expected financial returns, Thai outlets framed it as part of a larger narrative about Thailand's economic resilience and ambition. This divergence illustrates how each country perceives the implications of such investments differently, with Indonesia concentrating on the immediate financial aspects and Thailand viewing it through the lens of national economic strategy and international positioning.
