SIA Engineering and Air India Sign MOU for MRO Collaboration

SIA Engineering Company and Air India have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore collaborative opportunities in maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services. This agreement, signed on July 3, 2024, is part of a broader strategy to position India as a global hub for aviation MRO activities.

The collaboration could lead to the formation of a joint venture in India, leveraging SIA Engineering's technical expertise alongside Air India's extensive operational network. This partnership aims to address the increasing demands of the Indian and regional aviation markets.

Chin Yau Seng, CEO of SIA Engineering, emphasized the initiative's significance, stating that it extends beyond mere fleet support. “This initiative goes beyond fleet support; it is about realizing India’s vast MRO potential,” he remarked. The partnership is expected to enhance operational excellence for Air India while also catering to customers both within India and in the surrounding regions.

In May 2024, SIA Engineering was appointed as Air India’s strategic partner for base maintenance, tasked with developing the airline’s base management facilities in Bangalore. This strategic move aligns with the Indian government’s efforts to boost the aviation sector and attract foreign investment in MRO services.

Following the announcement, shares of SIA Engineering rose by 0.3%, closing at S$3.47 (approximately USD 2.60) on the Singapore Exchange.
