Nvidia Explores Investment in Reflection AI Amid AI Market Expansion
Nvidia is in discussions to deepen its ties with Reflection AI, a startup focused on open-weight models, potentially through investment or computing power agreements.

Nvidia is currently engaged in discussions to enhance its investment in Reflection AI, a startup specializing in open-weight models, or to provide it with computing resources. These talks are reportedly in the early stages, with no formal agreements reached as of yet, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Reflection AI, founded by former Google DeepMind researchers Misha Laskin and Ioannis Antonoglou in March 2024, recently debuted its open-weight model, Beam. This model is designed to be cost-effective and is intended for business customers and developers focusing on coding and AI agent tasks. It is positioned to compete with established models from Chinese firms, which often offer lower-cost alternatives.
The startup has been making headlines not only for its innovative products but also for its substantial funding efforts. It has held talks to raise $2.5 billion at a valuation of $25 billion, as reported by the Wall Street Journal. However, other reports have placed Reflection AI's valuation at $27.5 billion following its $2.5 billion round in March 2026.
Reflection AI has also struck billion-dollar deals with major players like SpaceX and Nebius Group for computing power. The contract with SpaceX is valued at up to $6.3 billion, while the specific value for Nebius Group has not been disclosed.
Nvidia's potential involvement with Reflection AI could take several forms, including an acqui-hire, where Nvidia would hire staff and license technology, or an increase in its equity stake. The Financial Times has noted that such a partnership could also involve providing additional chips to the startup.
According to U.S. President Donald Trump's July 2025 AI action plan, there is an emphasis on ensuring that America has leading open models founded on American values.
Nvidia has been actively expanding its influence in the AI sector. The company, described as the world’s most valuable, aims to foster the development of open-weight models in the U.S. to compete against cheaper Chinese alternatives.
As the AI market continues to evolve rapidly, Nvidia's strategic maneuvers, including the potential partnership with Reflection AI, highlight the competitive landscape where U.S. firms are striving to maintain an edge against foreign competitors.
