At least 23 individuals have lost their lives, and thousands have been displaced across the Philippines as a result of heavy rainfall linked to the enhanced southwest monsoon and tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported these figures in its latest update on Monday.

Severe flooding and landslides have predominantly impacted regions in Luzon and parts of the Visayas, leading to the evacuation of families to temporary shelters as rivers overflowed and roads became impassable. Local authorities, in coordination with national agencies and local government units, have been actively engaged in rescue, relief, and evacuation operations.

The NDRRMC's report indicated that multiple provinces have suffered damage to roads, bridges, and agricultural areas, disrupting transportation and livelihoods. Additionally, communities affected by the floods have experienced power interruptions and issues with water supply.

Assessment teams are continuing to validate reports from the affected areas as weather conditions remain unpredictable. The NDRRMC has cautioned that intermittent rains are expected to persist in the coming days, urging residents in low-lying and landslide-prone areas to remain vigilant and adhere to evacuation advisories.

Government relief operations are ongoing, with authorities striving to restore access to affected communities and provide assistance to the displaced families. The situation underscores the Philippines' vulnerability to natural disasters, a challenge that has been exacerbated by climate change and the increasing frequency of extreme weather events.
