Epson Expands Manufacturing Operations in the Philippines with New Robotics Plant
The Japanese company Epson is set to manufacture industrial robots in Batangas, creating jobs and enhancing local manufacturing capabilities.

The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) has announced a significant expansion of Epson Precision Philippines Inc. (EPPI), which will see the company begin manufacturing industrial robots at its Lima Technology Center-Special Economic Zone in Batangas. This initiative is expected to bring in over P40 million (approximately $700,000) in investments and create 118 new jobs, with operations slated to commence in March 2027.
The agreement was formalized by PEZA Director General Tereso Panga and EPPI Chairman and President Yushi Irie. Under the terms of the agreement, Epson will produce various models of industrial robots, including Selective Compliance Articulated Robot Arms (Scara) and six-axis robots, which are crucial for manufacturing processes. Scara models are particularly adept at rapid pick-and-place tasks, while six-axis robots offer enhanced flexibility, mimicking the movement of a human arm to navigate around obstacles.
“Epson has been part of the PEZA family since 1995, and today we welcome them into an entirely new chapter of reinventing itself and moving up the value chain — from precision printing to precision robotics,” Panga stated. This expansion aligns with PEZA's goal of encouraging higher-value manufacturing investments that enhance global competitiveness.

With over three decades of operations in the Philippines, Epson's move into robotics represents a strategic shift that not only integrates the country into its global supply chain but also strengthens its position in advanced manufacturing. The initiative is part of a broader trend where the Philippine government is actively promoting investments in high-tech industries. For instance, recent initiatives have included incentives for electric vehicle manufacturing, as reported by InsideASEAN.
The expansion into robotics is seen as a manifestation of the Philippines' growing capabilities in advanced manufacturing, reflecting a commitment to fostering a more competitive industrial landscape. As the country continues to attract foreign investments, the focus on high-tech sectors such as robotics is expected to play a crucial role in its economic development.
