Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore Conduct Joint Maritime Security Exercise

Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore are conducting a joint maritime security exercise in the Riau Islands, which commenced on August 10 and will conclude on August 12, 2026. This initiative aims to strengthen coordination in some of Southeast Asia's busiest maritime routes, including the Malacca Strait, Singapore Strait, and Natuna Sea, according to Indonesia's official Antara news agency.

The exercise, named INSIMA, involves approximately 60 personnel from Indonesia's Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla), the Singapore Police Coast Guard (SPCG), and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA). Vice Admiral Irvansyah, Chief of Bakamla, emphasized that this collaboration underscores the commitment of the three nations to enhance regional maritime security and safety.

Admiral Haji Mohd Rosli bin Abdullah, Director General of MMEA, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of such exercises for fostering cooperation and networking among the coast guard agencies. The exercise includes practical training on Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) operations, aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the participating nations in handling maritime security challenges.
