Petrolimex Reduces Fuel Prices Amid Global Market Pressures

Petrolimex, Vietnam's leading fuel supplier, has announced a reduction in retail fuel prices by 300 VND per liter, effective from 3 PM on October 15, 2026. This decision aims to alleviate financial burdens on consumers and businesses during a period of rising global energy costs and inflation, according to the company’s official statement.

The price cut is part of a broader initiative by the Vietnamese government to stabilize the economy and control inflation, as outlined by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Văn Thắng during a recent meeting on price management. The government has urged various ministries and local authorities to work closely to ensure the supply of essential goods and manage costs effectively.

“Petrolimex said the price reduction is a response to the government's call for measures to stabilize the economy and control inflation.”Petrolimex, official statement

Petrolimex's move to lower prices was described as a decision to share the cost pressures with the public and businesses, aligning with the company’s approach to maintain a stable energy supply amidst fluctuating market conditions. The price reduction will remain in effect for 14 days, aligning with the government's strategies to mitigate inflationary pressures.

In light of ongoing geopolitical tensions, particularly in the Middle East, which have impacted global oil supplies, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has emphasized the importance of monitoring international fuel prices closely. Despite these challenges, officials report that import shipments have largely proceeded as planned, with no significant disruptions to the supply chain, although some delays have occurred due to transportation issues.

Petrolimex's price adjustment is part of a broader response to the current energy landscape, which has seen increased costs for various sectors, including aviation fuel, where prices have surged due to international market fluctuations. The Ministry of Industry and Trade has indicated that flexible operational strategies have been developed to respond if oil prices rise above 200 USD per barrel, ensuring that domestic supply remains uninterrupted while managing inflationary impacts.

As Vietnam continues to navigate these complex energy dynamics, government entities and major fuel suppliers like Petrolimex are coordinating efforts to maintain market stability and support economic growth.
