Thailand Invites NZAero to Invest in Aircraft Manufacturing
The Thai government encourages New Zealand's NZAero to establish a production facility and maintenance center in the Eastern Economic Corridor.
Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Ekniti Nitithanprapas, has announced efforts to attract New Zealand-based aircraft manufacturer NZAero to invest in the country. This initiative was highlighted during a recent visit to NZAero's operations in Auckland, where he was accompanied by Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.
During their discussions, Ekniti emphasized the potential for NZAero to establish a manufacturing facility and an aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) center in Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). The EEC is a special economic zone aimed at enhancing regional economic development and attracting foreign investment. The Thai government is prepared to facilitate this investment through a Fast Track process, aimed at minimizing obstacles for foreign investors.

Thailand has been a long-time customer of NZAero, having purchased aircraft from the company for over 70 years. The Thai Air Force has utilized NZAero's CT4 training aircraft, which have been in service for 54 years and have trained more than 3,500 pilots since their introduction in 1973. Ekniti noted that the Thai government is considering acquiring additional training aircraft from NZAero to support pilot training initiatives.

The recent visit included a signing ceremony for a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Top Flying Limited and NZAero, focusing on comprehensive support for the Thai Air Force's CT4 fleet. This partnership will include maintenance, engineering support, parts management, and training, aimed at enhancing the operational capabilities of the CT4 aircraft.
According to local reports, the Thai government views this collaboration as an opportunity to strengthen ties with New Zealand while advancing Thailand's aviation sector. The EEC's strategic location and infrastructure development are seen as key factors in attracting such investments.
