Western Union and JuanPay Partner to Enhance Remittance Services in the Philippines

Western Union, a global leader in financial services, has formed a partnership with Filipino financial service provider JuanPay to enhance access to international remittance services throughout the Philippines. The collaboration will initially roll out in approximately 1,400 of JuanPay's nearly 2,000 outlets, which include both company-owned and franchise-operated locations.

This partnership is strategically designed to cater to communities with strong ties to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), allowing customers to send and receive money internationally at participating JuanPay outlets. These locations already provide various services such as bill payments, loan transactions, and government services, thereby integrating international remittance capabilities into their existing offerings.

Rico Fernando M. Chico, Chairman of ACM Group of Companies, which operates JuanPay, emphasized the significance of this partnership in enhancing financial accessibility. He stated that JuanPay’s vision has always been to bring essential financial services closer to Filipino communities and that the collaboration combines Western Union's extensive global network with JuanPay's localized approach to service delivery.

Western Union operates in over 200 countries and territories, supporting transactions in nearly 130 currencies. The company’s regional vice president for the Philippines, Gregory Laurent, highlighted the importance of this partnership, noting that it creates new and more effective ways to serve customers and makes international remittances more accessible and integrated into the platforms they already use every day.

Vince Tallent, Western Union's senior vice president for Asia-Pacific, remarked on the necessity of physical locations in the evolving digital landscape. He noted that many customers still prefer face-to-face transactions, particularly in areas with inconsistent digital connectivity, and added that multi-service locations serving as one-stop shops for their financial services needs have a vital role to play.

The partnership follows a broader trend in the Philippines where financial institutions are increasingly focusing on digital solutions while maintaining physical presence. InsideASEAN has reported that Philippine banks are moving to eliminate digital transfer fees, further enhancing accessibility for consumers.

As JuanPay marks its 12th anniversary, this partnership represents a significant milestone in its mission to broaden financial access across the Philippines. The integration of Western Union's remittance services will not only provide additional channels for customers but also strengthen JuanPay’s position in the financial services market.
