The Crew Connect Global 2026 and Beacon 2026 conferences in Manila address pressing maritime issues and enhance cooperation among stakeholders.

Manila is poised to host two pivotal maritime conferences in October 2026, addressing urgent issues within the industry and fostering collaboration among stakeholders. The Crew Connect Global 2026, scheduled from October 20 to 22 at the Shangri-La The Fort, is recognized as the world’s premier maritime crewing conference. It aims to spotlight pressing topics such as geopolitics, criminalization of seafarers, energy transition, and technological advancements in shipping.
Anticipated to attract over 750 maritime leaders and professionals, the event will feature around 70 industry suppliers and more than 85 experts, including representatives from prominent organizations like the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF). The conference will also include an exposition hall, an awards ceremony, and a gala dinner, underscoring the importance of networking within the maritime community.
“We must ensure that our seafarers are equipped with the necessary skills to adapt to the innovations in shipping.”Francis Tolentino, Labor Secretary
In parallel, the Beacon 2026 conference, which concluded on October 1, 2026, gathered key maritime stakeholders to renew strategic partnerships and enhance the blue economy. This event showcased innovations in maritime defense, shipping, and tourism, drawing more than 7,000 visitors over three days. Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino emphasized the need for Filipino seafarers to benefit from the evolving ocean economy, particularly as the industry undergoes rapid technological changes.
Labor Secretary Tolentino highlighted the importance of ensuring that seafarers are equipped with the necessary skills to adapt to innovations in shipping. The conference also underscored the urgent need for upskilling and reskilling seafarers to meet the demands of a decarbonized maritime future.
“It takes foresight, trust, and discipline to act together even under uncertainty.”Judy Honrado, MARINA OSS Cooperation and Strategic Maritime Initiatives Division Chief
Additionally, the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) has called for stronger cooperation among government agencies and private stakeholders to safeguard seafarers amid rising security threats, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz. During the Philshipcon event, held on September 30, officials discussed the establishment of joint crisis-response protocols and operational strategies to ensure the safety and welfare of crews during regional conflicts.
“A sustainable blue economy must prioritize decent jobs and skill development for workers in the maritime sector.”Hans Leo Cacdac, Secretary of Migrant Workers
The Beacon conference also served as a platform to advocate for ethical recruitment and decent working conditions for Filipino seafarers, reinforcing a people-centered approach to maritime development. Secretary of Migrant Workers Hans Leo Cacdac stated that a sustainable blue economy must prioritize decent jobs and skill development for workers in the maritime sector.
As the Philippines continues to assert its position as a significant player in the global maritime industry, these conferences represent a concerted effort to navigate the complexities of modern maritime challenges while enhancing the welfare of its seafarers.
