The National Heart Institute of Malaysia (IJN) has entered into a collaboration with Batik Air to attract health tourists to the country. This initiative aims to position Malaysia as a preferred destination for medical tourism, particularly for patients seeking specialized heart care.

According to IJN's Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mohd Azhari Yakub, the partnership will leverage Batik Air's extensive network to facilitate travel for international patients. He expressed hope that the collaboration would provide seamless access to world-class medical services for health tourists, highlighting the importance of connectivity in enhancing Malaysia's appeal as a medical tourism hub.

Batik Air, a subsidiary of Indonesia's Lion Air Group, has been expanding its operations since rebranding from Malindo Air in 2022. The airline's Chief Executive Officer, Arif Wibowo, noted that the partnership aligns with their strategy to enhance service offerings and cater to the growing demand for medical tourism. He stated their commitment to supporting IJN in promoting their services to potential patients abroad.

This collaboration comes at a time when Malaysia is actively seeking to boost its medical tourism sector, which has been a significant contributor to the country's economy. In 2022, the Malaysian healthcare sector attracted approximately 1.5 million international patients, with many seeking treatments in cardiology, orthopedics, and cosmetic surgery, as reported by the Ministry of Health Malaysia.

As part of the initiative, Batik Air will offer special travel packages for patients and their families, including discounted fares and tailored services to ensure a comfortable journey. This move is expected to further enhance Malaysia's reputation as a destination for health tourism, which is increasingly popular among international patients seeking quality healthcare at competitive prices.
