Air Quality Alert: Multiple Areas in Malaysia Record Unhealthy Levels

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is currently grappling with severe haze conditions, as between 25 and 26 areas across the country have reported unhealthy levels of the Air Pollutant Index (API).

According to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), Pasir Gudang in Johor recorded the highest API reading, reported as 189 by one source and 182 by another. Other areas in Johor with unhealthy readings include Larkin (181 or 170) and Kota Tinggi (180 or 179). Additional affected regions include Pengerang (178 or 168), Nilai in Negeri Sembilan (173 or 170), and Seremban (170 or 166), among others.

The API readings categorize air quality as follows: 0-50 indicates good air quality, 51-100 is moderate, 101-200 is unhealthy, 201-300 is very unhealthy, and readings above 300 are classified as hazardous. Currently, 41 areas have moderate API readings, while one or two areas report good air quality.

As the haze persists, local authorities continue to monitor air quality closely. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official channels and take necessary precautions.
