OJK Engages Global Investors, Optimism Grows for Indonesia's Capital Market Reforms

The Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK), Indonesia's Financial Services Authority, has recently engaged with over 100 global investors, expressing confidence in the ongoing reforms of the country's capital market. This meeting, held after a Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK) session, was aimed at gathering feedback and fostering international investment interest.

Friderica Widyasari Dewi, Chairperson of the OJK, noted that the investors appreciated the various reform initiatives undertaken by the agency. However, they emphasized the importance of consistent implementation moving forward. Friderica stated during a press conference that they had recently met with 100 global investors abroad who appreciated the initiatives taken by the OJK and were waiting for consistency, affirming the OJK's commitment to being consistent.

“What they are waiting for is consistency. We are committed to being consistent.”Friderica Widyasari Dewi, Chairperson of OJK

The IDX Composite (IHSG) has shown signs of recovery, with a notable increase in fundraising activities in the Indonesian capital market, which exceeded IDR 113 trillion in the past month. This uptick is seen as a positive indicator for the industry, reflecting growing investor confidence. Friderica highlighted that the number of Single Investor Identifications (SID) has risen from around 20 million last year to nearly 30 million this year, suggesting a broader base of investors participating in the market.

In addition to the increase in investor numbers, the OJK is also preparing for several upcoming initial public offerings (IPOs), which are expected to further enhance market confidence. The introduction of new investment products, such as gold-based exchange-traded funds (ETFs), is anticipated to attract even more interest from the public.

Friderica also pointed out that reforms initiated since January have largely been implemented, with some still in progress. Among the key achievements is the introduction of new criteria for the High Suspicious Criteria (HSC) list, which includes additional indicators to combat market manipulation. The OJK has also committed to enforcing regulations against violations in the capital market, with several sanctions already announced.

Overall, the OJK's proactive engagement with global investors and the positive trends in the Indonesian capital market signal a strengthening economic outlook, which may encourage further foreign investment in the region.
