BumiTrust Wins DST Innovation Awards for AI-Powered Agri-Tech Solution

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – In a significant recognition of innovation, BumiTrust, a startup leveraging artificial intelligence, has been awarded the top prize at the DST Innovation Awards. This event, held at Mutiara Exchange, concluded a six-week intensive entrepreneurship incubator aimed at nurturing Brunei's future tech leaders.

BumiTrust's AI platform is designed to monitor soil conditions and certify the safety of agricultural produce, addressing crucial needs for local farmers and stakeholders. The startup emerged as the champion of the Catalyst Programme Cycle 4, which featured eight competing teams presenting ideas across various sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, tourism, and sustainability.

Other notable participants included Team Phyto, which secured the first runner-up position with an AI-based early detection platform for cognitive healthcare, and Team Venyu, which took second runner-up for its real-time booking platform offering verified listings and transparent pricing.

The event brought together prominent figures from Brunei’s higher education and digital sectors, including Datin Professor Dr Hjh Zohrah Hj Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), and Radin Sufri Radin Basiuni, CEO of Datastream Digital (DST). Radin Sufri emphasized the importance of the Catalyst Programme in providing students and graduates with practical exposure to the startup ecosystem.

This initiative reflects DST's commitment to investing in the sultanate's digital economy through strategic partnerships, particularly with UTB, which contributed significantly to the cohort.

The Catalyst Programme, led by DST InnoLab, serves as a core component of the company's corporate social responsibility efforts, aiming to cultivate a robust environment for innovation and entrepreneurship among Bruneian youth.
