Smart Coordination at Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai Airports Saves Airlines Over $3.7 Million at Tan Son Nhat

The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) has reported that the implementation of the Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) system at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City and Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi has resulted in substantial operational efficiencies. Since the system's launch, airlines at Tan Son Nhat have saved more than $3.7 million in fuel costs due to reduced taxiing times.

According to ACV, the A-CDM system became operational at both airports on February 1, 2024. Initial assessments indicate that the system has improved on-time performance rates, with an increase of nearly 10% at Noi Bai and about 20% at Tan Son Nhat. The average taxiing time has decreased, with Tan Son Nhat reducing taxi times by between 0.48 and 0.65 minutes per flight, while Noi Bai saw a reduction of nearly 1.5 minutes.

ACV's ongoing evaluations show that the A-CDM system has led to an increase in the on-time performance (OTP) rate at Noi Bai to 71.47%. Before the implementation of A-CDM, the average taxiing time at Noi Bai was considerably higher. Post-implementation, this has dropped to about 14 minutes for takeoffs and 9 minutes for landings, representing a reduction of about 2 minutes compared to before.

The A-CDM system facilitates better data sharing and coordination among various stakeholders, including airlines, ground service providers, and air traffic control. This collaborative approach is designed to optimize resource use and enhance operational capabilities at the airports managed by ACV. The results from the second quarter of 2026 have prompted ACV to focus on standardizing data and performance indicators, aiming to further reduce manual data entry and enhance training for involved parties.

ACV has also indicated that the A-CDM system is expected to be implemented at Da Nang International Airport by December 2026, with preparations underway for Long Thanh and Cat Bi airports.
