Pham Nhat Vuong Maintains Status as Southeast Asia's Richest Billionaire
The chairman of Vingroup, Pham Nhat Vuong, has seen his wealth rise significantly, positioning him as the wealthiest individual in Southeast Asia with a net worth of approximately $35.7 billion.

Pham Nhat Vuong, the chairman of Vingroup, has recently been recognized as Southeast Asia's richest billionaire, with an estimated net worth of approximately $35.7 billion, according to Forbes. This places him at the 60th position on the global billionaire list, significantly ahead of Thailand's wealthiest individual, Sarath Ratanavadi, who has a net worth of $17.9 billion.
Vuong's wealth surged by about $2.3 billion in a single day, marking him as the fourth-largest wealth gainer globally on August 26 and 27, 2026. This increase was primarily attributed to a notable rise in the share price of Vingroup's stock, which reached a new peak of VND 237,800 ($9.05) per share, reflecting a 38% increase since the beginning of the year. Vingroup's market capitalization has now surpassed VND 1.8 trillion, accounting for over 20% of the total market capitalization on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE).
In contrast, Thailand has a total of 20 billionaires, yet none surpass Vuong's wealth. The wealth gap is particularly striking given Thailand's status as a significant hub for private wealth in Southeast Asia, home to many large family conglomerates. The combined wealth of Thailand's 50 richest families is approximately $187 billion, with the family behind Red Bull valued at $47 billion and the Chearavanont family at $36.6 billion.
Vuong's rise in wealth is not only a reflection of his business acumen but also the performance of Vingroup, which operates across various sectors including real estate, retail, healthcare, and electric vehicles. The company's recent inclusion in the FTSE Global Equity Index Series is expected to attract significant passive investment, potentially exceeding $500 million, further boosting its stock performance.
Analysts have noted that Vuong's continued success reflects Vietnam's growing economic stature and its potential to become a leading player in the regional market. The company has set ambitious targets for 2026, aiming for revenues of VND 485 trillion and a net profit of VND 35 trillion.
As Vuong continues to expand Vingroup's reach and influence, his position as the wealthiest individual in Southeast Asia appears secure, at least for the foreseeable future.
