Broadcom and Apple Extend Partnership Through 2031 for Custom Chips
The expanded agreement focuses on application-specific integrated circuits, essential for future Apple products.

Broadcom has announced an extension of its partnership with Apple, committing to supply custom application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) chips through 2031. This agreement, revealed on July 6, marks a significant development in the long-standing relationship between the two tech giants, which has historically focused on connectivity components for Apple devices.
The new ASIC chips will be utilized across multiple generations of Apple products, reinforcing Broadcom's role in Apple's supply chain, particularly in areas such as Bluetooth, 5G, and Wi-Fi technology. Shares of Broadcom experienced a 5% increase following the announcement, reflecting investor optimism as the company continues to benefit from the growing demand for semiconductors driven by advancements in artificial intelligence (AI).

Despite the deepening collaboration, Apple has been strategically reducing its dependence on Broadcom by integrating its own Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips into its devices, including iPhones, iPads, and Macs. Nevertheless, Broadcom remains a key supplier for cellular networking components that are compatible with Apple's proprietary modem technology.
Looking ahead, Apple is reportedly developing its own dedicated AI server chips, codenamed Baltra, expected to launch by 2027. These chips will incorporate Broadcom's technology and are intended to support cloud-based AI features, such as advanced text generation and image synthesis. This initiative underscores the importance of ASIC silicon in the evolving landscape of AI infrastructure, as both companies aim to enhance their competitive edge in the market.
