Megaworld Accelerates Hospitality Expansion with New Group Structure

Megaworld Corporation is advancing its hospitality expansion plans, targeting the development of nearly 12,000 hotel rooms by 2032. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance the tourism sector in the Philippines, particularly in key destinations such as Palawan and Ilocos Norte. The company announced this ambitious goal alongside the creation of a new organizational structure for its hospitality business, which will be managed under the newly formed Megaworld Global Hotels and Resorts (MGHR).

According to Megaworld President and CEO Lourdes Gutierrez-Alfonso, the reorganization aims to consolidate the company’s growing hotel portfolio, which will be divided into two groups: Megaworld Hotels & Resorts (MHR) and Megaworld Global Hospitality (MGH). MHR will oversee hotel developments in major urban areas, including Metro Manila, Boracay, Batangas, and Cebu, while MGH will manage larger properties such as the Mövenpick Manila Bay Westside and several new hotels in Iloilo and Palawan.

Kevin Tan, president and CEO of Alliance Global Group Inc., Megaworld’s parent company, emphasized the importance of tourism as a catalyst for sustainable economic growth. He stated that tourism is one of the most powerful engines of sustainable economic growth and added that every hotel built creates jobs, supports local businesses, brings visitors to new destinations, and opens more opportunities for communities to prosper. This sentiment underscores the company’s commitment to promoting Philippine destinations and culture to international travelers.

The hospitality segment has proven to be Megaworld's fastest-growing recurring income source, with revenues increasing by 11% year-on-year to approximately P3.1 billion in the first half of 2026. This growth was bolstered by the recent opening of the 405-room Belmont Hotel Iloilo, which has elevated the company’s total hotel room inventory in Iloilo to nearly 1,000, making it the largest hotel in Iloilo City by room count.

As part of the restructuring, Socrates Alvaro has been appointed managing director of MHR, bringing nearly two decades of experience in hospitality across various international markets, including the United Kingdom and the Maldives. Anna Vergara will lead MGH, leveraging her extensive background with Marriott International, where she spent over 32 years in various operational and leadership roles.
