Converge ICT Solutions to Launch Affordable Home Internet Service
The Philippine telecom provider aims to provide low-cost broadband access to underserved households.

Converge ICT Solutions Inc., a leading telecommunications provider in the Philippines, is in the process of developing a new household internet service that will be priced at around P500 ($9) per month. This initiative, according to CEO Dennis Uy, aims to cater to the significant number of households that currently cannot afford existing broadband services.
As of 2024, the Philippine Statistics Authority reported that the country has approximately 29.67 million households, yet only 28 percent have access to fixed broadband, as indicated by World Bank data. Uy noted that affordability remains a major barrier despite the presence of fiber infrastructure in the country. “Consumers are really interested in the products, but those who want to avail cannot afford them sometimes,” he stated.
The new service, which is still in the research and development phase, is designed to be easily accessible, allowing customers to purchase it off the shelf and set it up at home without the typical installation process. Uy explained that the service will utilize Fiber to the Edge (FTTE) technology, which aims to bring fiber connections closer to users, thereby enhancing accessibility.

“That should be the way to target the mass market,” Uy remarked, acknowledging that while another telecommunications company already employs FTTE for mobile internet, Converge plans to adapt it for household connectivity. The primary cost for Converge will be the equipment installed at customers’ premises, and the company is considering a refundable deposit option for customers who may wish to return the device when discontinuing the service.
Converge anticipates that this new product will stimulate growth by reaching a large segment of the market. The firm has observed a trend of declining average revenue per user globally, particularly in Southeast Asian countries like Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam, where it is reported to be below $15 (approximately P1,000). In response, Converge is tailoring its services to meet the needs of various market segments.

The company plans to commence trials of this new service in the fourth quarter of 2026, focusing on Mindanao and third- and fourth-class municipalities, where access to affordable internet is particularly limited. This aligns with Converge's broader strategy of expanding its network and improving connectivity across the Philippines, especially in underserved regions.
In addition to this new offering, Converge has been actively enhancing its existing services. The company recently introduced contract-free FiberX plans aimed at providing flexibility for customers, particularly those living in condominiums and multi-dwelling units. These plans are designed to accommodate the diverse needs of both Filipino residents and expatriates.
Converge has set aside up to P23 billion ($415 million) for capital expenditures in 2026, a 30 percent increase from the previous year, primarily to strengthen and expand its network infrastructure. This includes the rollout of nearly one million additional ports to improve service availability, particularly in the Visayas and Mindanao regions.
