Search Operations Underway for Missing Malaysians in Nepal Floods

Severe flash floods in Nepal have resulted in 17 Malaysians being reported uncontactable, as authorities work to locate them among hundreds of tourists missing in the aftermath of the disaster. According to the Nepal Tourism Board, more than 380 tourists, including 291 foreign nationals, are currently unaccounted for following the floods that struck the Bhote Koshi River area in Rasuwa district.

The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, known as Wisma Putra, stated that the Malaysian embassy in Kathmandu had received reports from travel agencies indicating that they had lost contact with 11 Malaysians believed to be in the affected region. The ministry attributed this communication breakdown to severe disruptions in communication and electricity networks caused by the floods.

Wisma Putra confirmed that search and rescue teams deployed by the Nepali government are actively working to locate the missing individuals and ascertain their safety. The ministry has advised Malaysians in Nepal, particularly those near the affected areas, to remain vigilant and follow safety instructions issued by local authorities.

As of the latest updates, the floods have also left at least 72 bodies recovered, with ongoing efforts to find survivors and assist those impacted. The situation has prompted the Malaysian embassy to coordinate closely with local authorities and rescue teams to ensure the safety of its citizens.

Wisma Putra has urged Malaysians to register and regularly update their contact details through the e-Konsular portal, emphasizing the importance of staying connected during emergencies.
