Massive Drug Seizure: 521kg of Methamphetamine Found in Private Jet from Malaysia to Laos
A Malaysian citizen is among 13 individuals arrested in Laos following the discovery of over half a tonne of crystal methamphetamine on a private jet that originated from Subang.

In a significant drug bust, authorities in Laos seized 521 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine from a private jet that had flown from Subang, Malaysia, to Luang Prabang International Airport. The operation, which took place on October 1, resulted in the arrest of 13 individuals, including a Malaysian citizen, although officials clarified that the Malaysian was not aboard the flight.
According to Hussein Omar Khan, the director of the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department at Bukit Aman, the Learjet, registered as N73GP, was under surveillance following a tip-off received on September 21 regarding a planned drug smuggling operation. The police monitored the flight and discovered 21 out of 23 suitcases contained the illicit substance, weighing a total of 521kg, while the remaining two bags held personal belongings.
“At this point, the information we have is that a Malaysian has been detained there, but he was not among those who travelled from Malaysia on the flight concerned.”Hussein Omar Khan, Director, Narcotics Crime Investigation Department
The operation was initiated after local authorities in Laos received intelligence about a drug trafficking syndicate intending to smuggle narcotics via air. As reported by the Vientiane Times, the aircraft was scheduled to arrive at 1:30 PM, prompting specialized units to be deployed to intercept it.
Among those arrested were the pilot, co-pilot, a foreign tourist, three company employees, and seven airport staff members. Hussein noted that the pilot and co-pilot were not Malaysian nationals. He stated that they had not received detailed information from the Laotian drug enforcement authorities and emphasized that the Malaysian national detained was not involved in the flight.

This incident follows a previous case in July where a Malaysia Airlines pilot was arrested in Indonesia for allegedly attempting to smuggle over 70,000 ecstasy pills. The connection between the two cases is still under investigation, with Hussein indicating that it is too early to determine any links. He mentioned that a Malaysian has been detained, but he was not among those who travelled from Malaysia on the flight concerned.
