Malaysia's Passport Ranks Seventh in Global Power Index

The Malaysian passport has been ranked as the seventh most powerful passport in the world according to the latest Henley Passport Index for 2026. This position reflects Malaysia's strong international standing, allowing its citizens visa-free access to destinations globally.

In the Southeast Asian context, Malaysia remains the second most powerful passport in the region, following Singapore, which holds the top position with access to 192 destinations. Japan, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates share the second spot, while Sweden ranks third. Other notable rankings include Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, and Spain, all sharing the fourth position.

Malaysia's passport ranks ahead of several advanced economies, including the United States and Iceland, which are tied for tenth place. The index also highlights the relative strength of other Southeast Asian passports, with Thailand ranked 63rd, Indonesia 68th, and the Philippines at 72nd.

The Henley Passport Index evaluates passports based on the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa. The 2026 edition assessed 199 passports across 227 travel destinations, using data compiled by Henley & Partners in conjunction with the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Analysts noted that Malaysia's strong passport ranking reflects its diplomatic relations and enhances global mobility for citizens.
