Anwar Ibrahim Condemns International Inaction on Palestinian Suffering
Malaysia's Prime Minister expresses disgust at the global community's failure to protect Palestinian rights during a recent event.

In a recent speech at the Sumud Nusantara Dinner in Bangi, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed his profound discontent with the international community's failure to adequately address the plight of the Palestinian people. He emphasized that Malaysia would continue to confront diplomatic risks to advocate for Palestinian rights, particularly in light of the ongoing suffering of children in Gaza.
Anwar said he knew the risks and problems involved, but questioned their significance compared to the plight of Palestinian children who are crying out, hoping the world will hear them, yet the world remains deaf. His remarks came during the event held on Tuesday, Oct 13, where he highlighted the contradictions in the global commitment to democracy and human rights, questioning whose democracy is being upheld and which human rights are being prioritized.
“Anwar Ibrahim expressed that the failure of the international community to act is hypocritical.”Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia
He pointed out the hypocrisy in the international response to the Palestinian issue, asking whether the different treatment of Palestinians is influenced by their identity as Arabs or Muslims. He said that what is important is that they are human beings and that the continued oppression and atrocities inflicted upon innocent lives cannot be allowed.
“He said it is deeply shameful to say nothing can be done because we are too caught up in our own world.”Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia
In his address, Anwar called for both Malaysians and the international community to take action, no matter how small, to assist those who have endured over 70 years of suffering. He expressed that it is shameful to claim inaction due to being preoccupied with domestic issues and urged taking necessary steps to help.
Furthermore, Anwar reaffirmed the Malaysian government's commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause, stating that Malaysia, having its own history of colonialism, understands the importance of resisting all forms of injustice. He expressed gratitude to international participants in the Global Sumud Movement, recognizing their role in amplifying the call for justice for Palestine.
