Indian PM Modi Visits Indonesia for Diplomatic Engagements
Modi's state visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties and cultural cooperation with Indonesia.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Indonesia for a state visit that aims to bolster diplomatic relations and expand strategic cooperation between the two nations. This visit is a reciprocal gesture following Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto's trip to India in January 2025.
Upon his arrival at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on July 6, 2026, Modi was welcomed by President Prabowo and several cabinet ministers, including Foreign Minister Sugiono. Modi's official agenda is set to commence on July 7 at the Merdeka Palace, where he will engage in a pertemuan empat mata (one-on-one meeting) with Prabowo, followed by a bilateral meeting and a state banquet.
“There will be seven or eight MoUs in various fields, including defense, education, and health, as well as technology development.”Sugiono, Foreign Minister
During their discussions, the two leaders are expected to sign eight memoranda of understanding (MoUs) covering various sectors such as defense, education, health, and technology development. Sugiono stated, "There will be seven or eight MoUs in various fields, including defense, education, and health, as well as technology development." This collaboration is anticipated to yield tangible benefits for both countries.
“The visit to Candi Prambanan is part of the agreement between Indonesia and India to carry out restoration efforts of the temple.”Sugiono, Foreign Minister
Modi's itinerary also includes a visit to the iconic Candi Prambanan in Central Java on July 8, which is part of a cultural cooperation agreement between Indonesia and India. The visit to the temple is particularly significant as it relates to efforts for its restoration, a project that reflects the cultural ties being strengthened through this diplomatic engagement. Sugiono noted, "The visit to Candi Prambanan is part of the agreement between Indonesia and India to carry out restoration efforts of the temple."
In addition to the formal meetings, the arrival ceremony included a display of traditional Indonesian dance, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Indonesia. Modi's visit is expected to enhance the bilateral relationship, which has been described as increasingly close by officials.
